The protection of your personal data is of great importance to us. Below, we provide information on how we, Indifferent Penguin, as the responsible developer of the game “Serious Seal”, handle your data, which data is collected, and what rights you have.

2. Collection and Processing of Data in the Game

Our game “Serious Seal” is designed to operate as data-minimizingly as possible. The collection of data is essentially limited to the game functionalities of the leaderboards.

A. Unity Leaderboards & Hall of Fame

The game was created using the Unity engine and utilizes Unity Leaderboards (leaderboard services) to allow you to participate in a global “Hall of Fame”.

  • Collected Data: When you enter your name into the designated field to register on the leaderboard, this freely chosen player name (nickname) and your achieved high score (game progress) are recorded.
  • Purpose of Processing: Processing occurs exclusively for the purpose of calculating, managing, and visibly displaying the global leaderboard to you and other players within the game.
  • Legal Basis: The legal basis for this processing is the fulfillment of the contract or the game usage relationship (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b GDPR) as well as your consent through the voluntary entry of the name (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR).
  • Storage Period: The data remains stored in the leaderboard for as long as the game is operated or until you request the deletion of your entry.

B. Unity Services (Infrastructure)

Since the game is based on Unity technology, technically necessary data is processed when connecting to the leaderboard servers (e.g., device IP address, a temporary, anonymous device ID, and system information such as operating system version). This is necessary to secure technical communication with the Unity servers and prevent abuse (e.g., cheating).

For more information on data processing by Unity, please refer to Unity’s privacy policy:

https://unity.com/legal/privacy-policy

3. Disclosure of Data to Third Parties

Your data will not be passed on to unauthorized third parties. Leaderboard data is securely processed on the servers of Unity (Unity Technologies), acting as a data processor on our behalf. Any transfer to third countries (e.g., USA) is secured by Unity’s corresponding Standard Contractual Clauses to guarantee an adequate level of data protection.

4. Your Rights as a Data Subject

You have the right to request information at any time about the personal data we process regarding you. In addition, you have the following rights:

  • Right to Rectification: If your entered name is incorrect, you can request a correction.
  • Right to Erasure (“Right to be Forgotten”): You can request at any time that your entry (name and score) be deleted from the Hall of Fame. Simply write us a short email stating the nickname you used.
  • Right to Restriction of Processing or Objection: You can object to the future use of your data.

To exercise these rights, please contact us informally via email (see contact details under Section 1).

5. Children’s Privacy

Since only a freely choosable nickname and no real names or email addresses are requested for the Hall of Fame, the identification of real individuals is excluded. Nevertheless, we encourage parents and legal guardians to guide their children in choosing online pseudonyms (e.g., not using real names or birth years as nicknames).

6. Validity and Changes to this Privacy Policy

This privacy policy is currently valid. Due to the further development of the game or due to changed legal or regulatory requirements, it may become necessary to amend this privacy policy. The current version can be accessed by you on this website at any time.

7. Data Deletion Request (How to Delete Your Data)

We believe in data ownership and transparency. If you have entered your name into the global leaderboards (Hall of Fame) and wish to have your nickname and high score permanently removed from our servers, you can request the deletion of your data at any time.

How to request deletion:
Please send an informal email to our support address:

  • Email: daniel@indifferentpenguin.de
  • Subject: Data Deletion Request – Serious Seal
  • Required Information: Please state the exact Nickname you used in the leaderboard so we can locate and remove your entry.

Once we receive your email, we will manually delete your entry from the Unity Leaderboard servers within 72 hours and send you a confirmation email.
